CUTHMAN: The English shepherd who pushed his aged mother in a handcart from the West Country to Steyning in Sussex where he built a small church.

A play by Christopher Fry called 'The Boy With a Cart' is a fitting memorial.

A resident of Sussex, he is associated with several local places including Steyning and Chanctonbury Ring.

One among many legends explains how he thawted the Devil's plans to destroy Sussex Christians. In the interests of national security we are unable to reveal St CUTHMAN's secret weapon, but it did involve a candle, a sieve and a cock.
