St ADELAIDEAlso known as ADELAID-OF-ITALY, ADELAIDE-THE-EMPRESS, ADELAIDE-OF-BURGUNDY, ADELHEID
Patron Saint of Empresses, Princesses, Second Marriages and Step-parents
The daughter of King Rudolph of Burgundy, she became Empress after a royally rough start.
She escaped and met Otto, future Emperor of Germany. It's amazing how these things happen. She married him and they had five children, including, after Otto's death, her son Otto Jnr.
When Otto Jnr became Otto II, his wife forced our heroine into exile so they could take over. After his death she bounced back and became regent for her grandson Otto III — thereby gaining the Empress title.
Quite how she got into the Saintly calendar we are not sure — perhaps for having the patience of a Saint.
