St APOLLINARIS

Christian Saint

Also known as APOLLINARIS-OF-HIERAPOLIS

Bishop of Hierapolis not to be confused with APOLLONIUS-THE-APOLOGIST.

A well-respected chap, he’s best known for his letter to Roman bigwig Marcus Aurelius expounding Christian Apologetics. ("Sorry — but I don’t agree with this Montanism doctrine. I’m sorry but I really don’t.")

As luck would have it, a legion of Roman soldiers almost drowned in the desert after being targeted by a miraculous rainstorm. But Christian prayer saved them from this embarrassing fate and the entire legion turned Godwards.

This was obviously a home run for the Christians. So Marcus Aurelius held fire on his persecutions for a bit.
