St CLEMENT-I

Christian Saint

Patron Saint of Stone Cutters, Masons and Marble Workers

Disciple of the Apostles, particularly St PETER, and the first Pope and Martyr.

He upset the Romans with his preaching and was exiled to the marble quarries in the Crimea. But he kept right on preaching to the workers and converting them.

This would never do, so the Romans took him on a boat trip to swim with the fishes by the simple expedient of hanging an anchor round his neck and pushing him overboard.
