St DAMASUS-I

Christian Saint

Pope and suppressor of what he deemed was heresy.

He regarded Rome as the Apostolistic See. When you are Pope you can see things any way you like.

Also noted for commissioning St JEROME to translate the Old Testament from Hebrew to Latin. Which, as this was now the fourth century A.D., was a task we can’t help feeling was somewhat overdue.
