St DYMPNA

Patron Saint of Mental Health, Insanity, the Possessed

Unfortunate daughter of an Irish King.

He wished to replace his beautiful wife who had recently died. DYMPNA was the spitting image of her mum so he thought his daughter would fit the bill and tried to seduce her

Horrified, she fled to Belgium with her chaplain. The King chased after them, and when she still refused his incestuous advances killed both her and the priest.

For some bizarre reason she is now the Patron of the Insane. In her honor a mental hospital was founded at Gheel in Antwerp.

We are often asked about merchandise. Can we supply the latest St Dympna graphic novel, book or comic? Not to mention role-playing games (RPG), video games, St Dympna movies on DVD, BluRay and so on. To purchase such goodies we suggest you search for a dedicated mythology-based online store - or try Amazon, Ebay or other reputable websites. We offer a wide range of our own merchandise in our online GodShop, but we don't currently sell third party items. Yet!

Visitors often email us asking about St Dympna statues, sculptures or carved figurines of St Dympna. We regret we cannot assist with identifying such items.
