St GILES

Christian Saint

Hermit in France sometimes confused with an abbot from Arles.

Our Saint was very much into wildlife. He had a pet hind which supplied him with milk, and once when it came limping to his cave with a hunter’s arrow in its leg he miraculously transferred the arrow to his own arm.

He was the founder of a Benedictine abbey but he instructed others to preside over the everyday running of it, and eventually the town of St Giles materialised.
