St HIPPOLYTUS(2)

Venerable Martyr. This poor old priest went through Roman persecution in the worst possible way.

First he was put on the rack in Rome and sent to Ostia for further trials while dragged around in chains.

Executions abounding, the spectators were becoming bored with burnings, beheadings and crucifixions. So our Saint was tied between two wild horses which were sent more or less in the same direction over rough terrain.

After a mile or two what was left was gathered up later by the faithful, blood being sucked up with sponges.
