St JOHN-OGILVIE

Christian Saint

Jesuit Priest in the time of Protestant persecution. He was betrayed for holding a secret mass in Scotland.

Threatened with torture by fire after a hard time in jail, he said he would welcome it because his cell was freezing.

To the end he would not betray any other Catholics and he was eventually hanged. Not burned — with all the persecution going on there was probably a firewood shortage.
