St. MARCIAN OF CONSTANTINOPLE

Christian Saint

Bashful priest whose modesty was miraculously preserved

A kindly man, one day he denoted his tunic to a destitute beggar. Being naked under his vestments, he was a little worried his congregation might notice. They were easily shocked.

But a holy intervention occurred in the nick of time and suddenly he was revealed to be wearing a lovely golden tunic. His priestly privacy was preserved and his flock were none the wiser.

That would have been the end of the matter. But later he got a stiff reprimand from the Bishop for swanning around wearing such flashy golden gear. Sometime you just can’t win.
