Not so silly nun and nurse
Thought by her parish priest to be incredibly stupid, she was known as 'The Goose'.
Eventually she was allowed to nurse children at Treviso, and this seemed to be her true vocation.
When the First World War came she was in the thick of it nursing the wounded whilst under fire. Some supercilious superior nun sent her back to the laundry at some point, but there was such an outcry from the patients she was soon re-installed.
After the war she nursed children in isolation wards. It took some time, but 39 years after her death former patients were still clamoring for her canonization and so it came about.
It seems the Goose was one which could lay golden eggs. They do take a while to incubate.
