St SABINUS-OF-CANOSA

Bishop of Canosa.

He suffered from superstitious neighbors who associated learning with magic. Worried about his dodgy manuscripts and suspicious moments of contemplation, they alerted the authorities.

He was therefore summoned to Rome by the Pope, who made him sleep in the hall in case he cast any spells. He was obviously just as superstitious as everyone else.

Awakened by music that night, the Pope couldn't resist a peep. He saw to his amazement a real life angel singing to our Saint. Ah, he must be on God's side after all. So no problems there.
