Patron Saint of Poland
Bishop of Cracow.
The King took no notice until he found himself excommunicated. Then in a furious rage the King condemned the Bishop for treason.
No-one would kill the Bishop so the evil ruler did the deed himself, clubbing St STANISLAUS to death and hacking the body into pieces.
This did not go down well with the Pope, who forbade any sacraments to be performed in Poland at all, ever. The outrage this caused amongst the populace only abated when the shaken King fled the country, never to return.
