Greek Tree God

A Vegetation God

From Phrygia (modern day Turkey).

He was much fancied by CYBELE but there seemed to be a bit of spurning and he was turned into a pine tree and violets.

There also seems to be a death-rebirth thing going on with added castration, which may or may not explain his continuing popularity in Greece and also among the Romans.

Look, this Godchecking isn’t easy, you know. It isn’t like checking things out at the superstore.
