ADITYAS

Indian Sun Gods

Solar Gods in charge of important Heavenly matters

These are the sunny sons of ADITI. Their names are: VARUNA (the boss), ANSA, ARYAMAN, BHAGA, DAKSHA, MITRA and SURYA. Each Aditya takes it in turn to be in charge of the sun for one month.

Later on some smart-ass decided there should be another five — DHATOR, INDRA, MITRA, SAVITRI, and VIVASAT — to make a full calendar of months, but take no notice. We certainly shan’t.
