YASODHARA

Indian legendary mortal

Also known as Yashodhara

The wife Buddha left behind

She was Gautama’s wife until he decided to become Buddha. He just nipped off one night leaving his wife and son in the lurch.

She took it quite well considering — she just shaved her head and entered a monastery. Her globe-trotting Nirvana-soaring ex-husband must have thought her very enlightened.
