SHOKI

Japanese Protection God

Also known as Shōki

Footloose demon queller

He is actually the Japanese version of the Chinese monster-zapper Zhong Kui.

His fame spread to Japan, where he was apparently invited to quell a few of Japan’s more troublesome Oni ogres in his spare time.

His fame spread even more when Buddhists began to take an interest – everyone loves a good demon-squisher.
