Australian Multi-talented Deity

Surreal Lizard God

We are not at all sure about this one. It’s DREAMTIME meets Salvador Dali.

A monitor lizard deity that invents the canoe? Marries magpies? Weds teals? Finds a secret reservoir of water and refuses to share? But somehow the water flows into what becomes the Murray River? And now teals refuse to marry goannas?

Who was Murray? A Tory Politician and Secretary of State for the Colonies. Exactly the kind of person to have a river named after him. The river’s original name was Millewah but nobody seems to care about that anymore.
