Indian Mother Goddess

Ancient Godmother of the Sky

Being a Goddess of Fertility and Motherhood, ADITI is very much associated with sacred cows. We’re not quite sure of the connection between sky and cow. Does she commute to Earth or is there a herd of Heavenly flying cows?

Her name means ‘without limit’, which seems appropriate enough.

As the mother of the DEVAS, including AGNI and the ADITYAS, she is venerable and vital, but somewhat elusive and vague.

This is quite unusual. Hindu deities veer towards extravagance in their physical form, but far from having sixteen elbows and a dozen noses, ADITI doesn’t appear to have a physical form at all. Or perhaps she’s just very shy.
