He was a king and father of the Kauravas.
He was blind due to the actions of Karma — in a past life he blinded a swan and killed its kids for a laugh and now Karma was getting its own back. And then some — he also lost his hundred children in the great Kauravas vs Pandavas war.
At least he couldn’t see it happen.
