These are cheeky sprites from Mexico. Chaneques cause rain and thunder and, like pixies or sprites of other cultures, absolutely love mischief-making.
They hide your stuff and throw things all over the place. No wonder forests are so untidy. Someone should send them to bed without any supper.
They have been irritating humans in Mesoamerica since ancient times but are still going strong today down in modern southern Mexico. Nowadays they are probably the mischievous entities who hide your smartphone and cause havoc with your Wi-Fi signal.
