XIBALBA

Mayan legendary place

Also known as XIBALBAY

The frightful Maya Underworld

’The Place Of Fright’. This the Land of the Dead in Maya mythology.

It was ruled over by HUN-CAME and VUCUB-CAQUIX before they were dispatched by the HERO-TWINS. An extremely grim place full of tricks and traps, evil spirits and a large number of nasty Death Gods.

As underworlds go, XIBALBA is rather unique in that it boasts an official football team — albeit a rather disreputable one. See HUN-HUNAHPU.
