Allegedly she was an upper-class whore in Alexandria, Egypt.

A monk came across her (don't ask how) and decided to convert her. She burnt all her fine clothes, destroyed her jewellery and rushed off to join a nunnery.

Nobody seems to know when this happened. If indeed it did.
