St. POPE CORNELIUS

Christian Saint

Also known as Cornelius Of Carthage

Patron Saint of Cows, Cattle, Farm Animals and Domesticated Pets

Pope in Carthage during Decian persecutions.

When Christians renounced their faith under the intolerable threat of death, he allowed them back into the fold after penance.

This may have been a kindly humanitarian policy, but it was also seen as a bit of a wimp-out in certain quarters. For this he was exiled and died in prison.
