St. ALPHONSUS LIGUORI

Christian Saint

Also known as Alphonsus Maria Liguori

Patron Saint of Theologians and Confessors

Founder of the Redemptionists. Formerly a Neapolitan lawyer he was upset by all the bribery and turned churchwards.

For health reasons he was resting at the mountains of Scala and found the poor peasants did not have much of anything, especially belief. So he founded the Congregation of The Most Holy Redeemer for them. Being rather a mouthful, this became shortened to Redemptionists.

He always had a crick in his neck due to bad health, but this did not stop his appointment to Bishop of Saint Agatha, much against his will, where he made it a priority to help the poor and ailing.
