St. DYMPHNA

Christian Saint

Also known as Dympna

Patron Saint of Mental Health, Insanity, the Possessed

Unfortunate daughter of an Irish King.

He wished to replace his beautiful wife who had recently died. Dymphna was the spitting image of her mum so he thought his daughter would fit the bill and tried to seduce her

Horrified, she fled to Belgium with her chaplain. The King chased after them, and when she still refused his incestuous advances killed both her and the priest.

For some bizarre reason she is now the Patron of the Insane. In her honor a mental hospital was founded at Gheel in Antwerp.
