St. POLYCARP

Christian Saint

Also known as Polýkarpos

Bishop of Smyrna and Martyr

The Apostles were now all gone and no one knew exactly when Easter should be. Then there was a proliferation of plagues and this poor old Bishop was asked to change his mind about things.

“What — from better to worse? It can’t be done.” So it was decided to do away with him.

He wouldn’t burn either, so they had to behead him.
