St. THOMAS BECKET

Christian Saint

Also known as Thomas-À-Becket

Famously strong-willed and grumpy Archbishop of Canterbury and Martyr

“Who will rid me of this turbulent priest?” screamed King Henry II, and knights seeking favor rushed off and stabbed Thomas at the altar. The event can be found in just about every English History Book.

This piece of history is so well documented there is nothing we can add. Except that the À in the middle of his name was added much later to make him seem more Holy and Saintworthy.

It ultimately didn’t work though — in January 2006, Thomas Becket was voted the second most hated Briton of all time in a BBC poll.
