AMMAVARU

Hindu Mother Goddess

Goddess who laid the Cosmic Egg

Was she a Cosmic Chicken? She laid a large egg in the primordial Sea of Milk from which Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva eventually hatched.

The Cosmic Egg became a sort of Cosmic Omelet and that’s how the Universe was made. After that Ammavaru seems to have disappeared into some obscure dimension where encyclopedias cannot follow.

She appears in one version of the Hindu-Dravidian Creation myth as a Mother Goddess who rides a jackal. We are not sure where the jackal came from or if it was tempted to eat the egg.
