The colorful deities and demons of India...

UGRASENA

Hindu legendary mortal

Just a king in the wrong place at the wrong time

The place in question was Mathurâ, which he was the gentle ruler of. The time was the unfortunate moment that other people’s karma collided with his.

A demon named Dramila raped his wife, and a son ensued — Kamsa the demon. The kindly king brought up this troublesome child as his own son but you can’t be kind to demons. As soon as he was old enough, Kamsa took over the kingdom, casting out or killing his step-dad.

There are conflicting accounts — with the emphasis on conflict. Anyway the demon got well and truly sorted by Krishna, which is perhaps all you need to know.
