Lithuanian Mythology

GIRAITIS

Lithuanian Nature God

Forest God specializing in groves

The Lithuanians seem very fond of groves. It must be the space in the middle that gives them a chance to party. See ALKA.

We know little of this deity. He is not mentioned much and seems quite a recent addition to Lithuanian mythology. Actually, his name is pretty much the Lithuanian for ‘grove’ (giraitė), so perhaps he more of a personification of groves than an actual deity.

We have hunting goddess MEDEINA listed as his twin sister and girlfriend, but this could be a glitch in our Holy Database. If anyone has seen them lately, please get in touch.
