The Gods and Spirits of Lithuania

GIRAITIS

Lithuanian Nature God

Forest God specializing in groves

The Lithuanians seem very fond of groves. It must be the space in the middle that gives them a chance to party. See Alka.

We know little of this deity. He is not mentioned much and seems quite a recent addition to Lithuanian mythology. Actually, his name is pretty much the Lithuanian for ‘grove’ (giraitė), so perhaps he more of a personification of groves than an actual deity.

We have hunting goddess Medeina listed as his twin sister and girlfriend, but this could be a glitch in our Holy Database. If anyone has seen them lately, please get in touch.
