The Lord of Silly Headgear

If the cap fits wear it. Certain important personages, of kingly status at least, were often portrayed by the Maya wearing curious ornamented headgear – somewhat similar to a medieval jester’s cap, but with much more than bells on.

This has kept many scholars baffled for a very long time. But we think it’s all just a Maya meta-joke. Who says Gods don’t have a sense of humor?
