DANAE

Greek legendary mortal

Frequently locked-up lover of Zeus and mother of Perseus

Mother of Perseus. Her father, being warned by an oracle that trouble was brewing in the offspring department, locked her away in a bronze prison to prevent any hanky panky.

But Zeus himself fancied her and slipped through the roof disguised as a shower of gold. (This was the original golden shower.)

Danae was soon discovered to be pregnant and was promptly stuffed in a crate and sent packing. See Perseus for the rest of the tale...
