TANTALUS

Greek legendary mortal

A very bad person

Son of Zeus and one of the Nymphs, he nicked nectar and did other dreadful things culminating in plopping his son Pelops into a cooking pot and inviting the Gods for a meal.

He was punished with permanent tantalization up to his neck in water which he could never get to drink, with overhanging fruit branches which he could never quite reach.
